This weekend workshop is geared to women who are interested in running for office or running a campaign. The event will kick off Friday night with a reception with elected officials, followed by a series of breakout groups on Saturday and Sunday.

Juvenile Justice (North Suffolk Unit Meeting). Diane Fener advocates for children and families in the Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. In 1995, she undertook an Innovative Demonstration Project for the United States Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, serving for three years as a Juvenile Detention Specialist for the Virginia Public Defender Commission. After this project, Virginia Beach retained her to conduct an independent assessment of the local juvenile justice system and to make formal recommendations for improvements. Ms. Fener serves on the Advisory Board of the American Bar Association's national Juvenile Defender Center located in Washington, D.C. She also serves on the Virginia Beach Community Criminal Justice Board and on the board of directors of the Friends of the Virginia Beach Juvenile Court.
